Drop the wheels and run! Dec. 4th, 2009 @ 04:28 pm
Man if this guy was like a bank robber or Lex Luther or something I'd think he was awesome. But since hes not I'd rather he gets hit by a bus. Still, this is rather amazing.

Google Wave Nov. 25th, 2009 @ 08:45 pm
Ok so might be awesome might suck I don't really care about the techno babble right now. Everyone should try to get it, for one simple reason.

"The name was inspired by the Firefly television series in which a Wave is an electronic communication (often consisting of a video call or video message). During the developer preview, a number of references were made to the series such as Lars Rasmussen replying to a message with "shiny", a word commonly used in the series to mean cool or good, and the crash message of Wave being a popular quotation from the series: 'Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!'"

That is all.

Well, wasn't expecting this. Nov. 16th, 2009 @ 09:40 pm
So . . . apparently Alaska is finally fighting back. At 3:10 today the power went out at work. Also apparently at the barracks. And on base housing. And the entire base.

Now see, you need to understand this. Military bases generally have a much more secure power grid then other places. And Fort Wainwright is above most because of its location. Our base has its own power plant and is made to be entirely self sufficient in the event that its needed to be. Well obviously power to certain areas can go out for a little bit if someone hits a power poll or something, its not really supposed to be able to go out on the entire base. Especially not for 4 hours. Seriously, like this doesn't happen on military bases.

. . . man this is going to be a good winter.

but fourteen.

"Francheska Velez had recently returned from Iraq and was transferred to Fort Hood last week because she was pregnant, her father said."

The news all say thirteen, but fourteen were lost that day. Remember them all.

Gordon Freeman Greatest Gaming Hero

Yes this isn't some worldwide accept by everyone thing, if you feel like being nit-picky. But this was the result of votes buy upward of 100,000 accounts on a very popular gaming site. That's good enough for me. Also, I totally called Mario, Link, and Gordon being in the last 4. Seriously though, my heroes use crowbars.

You would think that, being in Alaska, I'd be deep in winter much earlier then back home. You would think that I'd be knee deep in snow when I'm used to seeing leaves changing color. You would think. I thought. You would be wrong.

Aside from about half an inch of snow about two weeks ago that melted by 10 am, we have had almost nothing. In fact as of right now the low doesn't go below freezing till some time next week. Course by about the 15th the highs are in the low 30s at best and by the 20th the highs are below freezing and not coming back up, but still, its the principle of the matter. I came here to make up for a winter in the desert and I expect a winter darn it! So enjoy your snow now, cause your even beating out Alaska.

(And someone make sure Erin puts on some gloves and a hat. That girl has no sense once the snow starts falling. :P )

Proof that living in Montana is good for your health.

In other news I still don't have internet in the barracks. So I am again sitting in Barns & Noble taking advantage of free wireless. Hopefully this won't last much longer. Aside from that there's not much happening.

Sometimes, there are no words.
» . . oh wait, I can't
Slight rant ahead, don't read if you don't want.

Have to move barracks tomorrow. Pretty much to the worst barracks on post. Two people to a room, community bathrooms, very little area for stuff, no closets, on the opposite side of base from everything useful (like food), this list goes on.

Also it was being renovated, but it is not finished. So aside from random uncompleted areas, two things are distictly lacking. One, the windows have no blinds. And two, the internet is not set up in the building yet. So as of tomorrow, I have no internet for an "undisclosed" period of time. Hopefully not long, but knowing how things work, could be weeks. And for you guys that know me, you know that this REALLY sucks. The internet to me is like beer to everyone else in the Army. Just you try to take that away from THEM. :P

So ya, I'm kinda in a bad mood right now and most likely will be for a while. Also will probably not be posting for a while. Luckily we were able to bribe some of the guards to let us slip our cell phones in, so I will still have that.

Just figured I'd give everyone a heads up, also I needed to rant.
» Well, this is random
So a series of events has caused a random line from my past to rear up its ugly head again (not really ugly I guess, but it's the thought that counts). And cause I'm bored and just for the fun of it, I'm posting it. There is one person that reads this journal that should know the whole story.

"Dumbledore = Senator Palpatine! Discuss!"
» Cause I haven't posted in a while
And I giggled at this. It not amazingly well done or anything, but it made me laugh.

Edit: Other video wasn't working, had to grab off youtube. It goes on for like a minute at the end with nothing for some reason, so you can stop watching once it gets to the end.
» I'm slightly crazy about the enviroment, can ya tell?
Ran into this, figured I'd spread it around.

. . . I'm not doing this just cause it told me to. I am in control of my own mind! Really!

Woo! Aspen is coming tomorrow!

Transportation has no idea where my stuff that I got shipped from Kuwait is. It could be in Kuwait. It could be here. It could be in freaking Siberia for all they know. In theory it will still get here "eventually." But that's theory. Its possible that I will never see any of that again. Unlikely hopefully, but possible.

I also got my computer from home today. I opened the box and found that the graphics card was no longer in the spot where it typically is. Somehow the screws holding it in had come off (none of the other 5 screws for expansion slots, just the 2 holding that card) and it had come loose and apparently bounced around a fair bit inside the case. Bent up the CPU heat sink fins and scratched up the casing on the card. No noticeable physical damage to any circuit boards right now, but we'll see when I can turn it on. (Oh, my monitor and my other computer stuff are in the shipment from Kuwait). Also three of the 9 motherboard screws came out, and I really don't know how. I still can't find one of them (and there is now way it got out of the case, a plastic bag, and dustcover bag, and the shipping box). The back of the case is also bowed out, but that might be fixable. My dad shipped it with insurance, but we'll see what they consider "damage".

All in all its not been a very good day.

. . . if my stuff never gets here and my computer really is broken, then the entirety of my possessions (working ones at least), everything I own, will be able to fit in three suitcases.
» I need to get a car
Nissan Versa! Nissan Versa!

That is all.

(No that's not the car I'm getting.)
» It still doesn't go away
No seriously folks, the sun is always there! I mean, tonight its setting at like 12:44 and rising at like 3:01, but dusk goes to like 2 and dawn starts at like 1:45. In other words THE LIGHT DOESN'T GO AWAY! I wake up at 2am and the light peaking through my curtains make me think I've overslept!! WHY OH WHY WON'T IT LEAVE ME ALONE?1

In other news, looks like I'm going to need a car. Yay, shopping time!

1Don't answer that. I have a firm grasp on how the earth goes spinning through space and all that jazz. (back)
